Jay Z publicly showed his support for Nipsey Hussle and his unique way of releasing his new mixtape, Crenshaw.

Earlier this week, the Los Angeles rapper held a midnight release of the new project, selling off signed copies at a pop-up store in L.A. for $100 a pop. He claims to have pocketed $100,00 from the sales… in 24 hours.

Jay, himself, made worldwide headlines earlier this year for the release of his Magna Carta… Holy Grail album, which he released early via a deal with Samsung. Using new ways to deliver music, the hip-hop mogul was apparently intrigued by Nipsey’s idea… and supported by purchasing 100 units… at the $100 pricetag.

In a recent interview with MTV, Nipsey talks about Jay’s support… and how it came about.

“I got a DM on Twitter from a respected Hip Hop journalist and he was just like, ‘Hov respects the move, salute,'” the rapper explained. “A little while later, I got an email that came through my team that was like, ‘Roc Nation, on behalf of Jay Z wants to buy 100 units. Who do we pay? When can we get the shipment out?’ They sent us $10,000. we sent them 100 CDs.”

Nipsey says he didn’t actually get to speak to Jay Z though, “I didn’t get a chance to holla at Jay, but through his people he made it clear that he respects the movement and everything. I was humbled by it. I felt like it was a good risk, and it ended up working out.”
